Sloane Square London
This prominent location on Sloane Square in the Chelsea neighborhood of London was Club Monaco’s first women’s stores in England.
The store began as a British heritage men’s brand which had been there for many years and needed a bit of a “lightening up”. We started the design process by looking at the surrounding neighbourhood which was filled with beautiful Georgian townhouses that became our main source of inspiration; We think that we may have ordered every book on Georgian architecture that the Heywood Hill bookstore had on their shelves.
We started the design of the store by relocating the staircase to the back of the space and created rooms much like a home. The entry became our welcome vestibule with custom plaster ceiling mouldings; the flooring on the main floor was reclaimed from a country estate, the bronze spindles on the stairs were made by our neighbour Rose Uniacke whose shop is around the corner.
When we approached the furnishings, we again came back to our neighbours - seating from Lille Road, wallpaper from our friends at Fromental, vintage hardware for the doors from Anthony Outred - we wanted the space to have history, reflect the surrounding shops and fall seamlessly into the neighbourhood like it had been there for decades.
